About us CAN declare a climate emergency CAN declare a Climate Emergency Climate Emergency In November 2021 we declared a climate emergency to reflect the urgency of the situation and encourage our friends and colleagues across the local Voluntary and Community sector (VCS) to join us in doing all we can to become carbon neutral and limit global warming. We’re doing all we CAN to help the local environment. In July 2019, BCP council declared a climate emergency and we are committed to supporting the council as it takes action on climate change. See our full Climate Emergency declaration here. To drive the work forward we have made the following pledges: • Work in partnership with local voluntary and community groups and the Council in support of the BCP Council climate emergency declaration - to set a target date for how early the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole region can be made carbon neutral, ahead of the UK target of 2050 and help limit global warming to less than 1.5°C - Not all individuals and small organisations will be able to make this reduction on their own, but we all have a duty to do our very best, and to support each other in achieving carbon neutrality • Establish a Climate Emergency Working group to inform changes within CAN so that we work towards carbon neutrality by 2030 or earlier • Bring together leaders from across the VCS to share ideas and best practice • Share ideas, inspiration and ‘how to’ across the sector to support everyone making even a small change Please follow us on Twitter @can100org to find out more about how we are managing to keep our carbon footprint low, and the vital steps we have taken to become an increasingly environmentally-friendly organisation.
