We’re keen to hear from people affected by unconscious bias willing share their lived experience in a short film to be used as part of a new training package we’re developing.

How a person thinks can depend on their life experiences and sometimes they have beliefs and views about other people that might not be right or reasonable. This is 'unconscious bias' and includes when a person thinks better of someone because they believe they're alike, or less of someone because that person is different to them, for example, they might be of a different race, religion or age.

Everyone can think in a way that involves unconscious bias at some point, but it's important to be aware of it and not let it affect behaviour or decisions.

To help combat unconscious bias we’re developing, in partnership with Dorset Race Equality Council and Dorset Community Action, a series of training events for staff and volunteers across the VCS and Public Sector.

Hearing directly from people who have experienced this is very powerful and helps us all consider our actions, so we’re looking to work with 10 – 15 people, who can be staff, volunteers or someone you know to share their experiences, which we’ll professionally record and use in our training programme – they’ll be fully supported every step of the way.

Recordings will take place on Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 7th December; it should only take about an hour at most. Venue will be confirmed. Travelling expenses are paid along with a £20 gift voucher as a thank-you.
