Will I need references? Most organisations will require a certain level of background information about you before they take you on as a volunteer. This often means they will ask you for a reference or two. This is especially relevant if you are working with vulnerable client groups, such as children or older people. If you do not have a previous job or it was too long ago for you to contact them about it, you can ask a support worker, your job coach, a previous volunteer coordinator or another professional person for a reference. If you don’t have someone who can give you a reference, talk to the organisation about this and they may be able to help you.
