About Access Dorset

Access Dorset was formed in 2010 and is now recognised nationally and locally as the leading user-led, pan-impairment disability rights organisation in Dorset. Access Dorset is a disability rights organisation. Through our Activity Program, our vocational training services, our community café, our crisis advocacy service and our information and advice service, we daily support disabled people.

We have created a vibrant therapeutic community hub called The Bridge, where local people come to us for support and to access activities that reduce isolation, improve self-esteem and wellbeing, build resilience, and develop independent living skills.

The Post

The post-holder will be responsible for delivering/supporting Access Dorset’s Activity Program, which includes our Performing Arts Group, Build/Grow vocational training opportunities, Art Groups, Cooking Groups and social activities. The postholder will report to the Senior Activities and Volunteer Coordinator and will also support delivery of the Horizons Café when necessary. These opportunities are aimed at supporting disabled people (including many people with learning disabilities), older people and carers to build their confidence, self-esteem, skills, and stamina. This role, which will involve both group work and work with individuals, recognises that disabled people face multifaceted barriers. The role therefore requires the post-holder to work holistically with members and support them to develop their social/vocational skills and confidence, set and review goals and monitor progress using the outcome star.

The focus of the role is to support delivery of a full activity program and support our incredible volunteers as part of our Volunteer Development Program The role does not demand that the postholder is necessarily experienced in Performing Arts, woodwork, gardening, or art but rather has the skills to supervise and coordinate volunteers in group work, and put our beneficiaries at the heart of Access Dorset.

An enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) police record check in relation to vulnerable adults (previously known as CRB check) is required for this role.
